WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The University of Central Missouri Mules wrestling team defeated the Newman Jets 28-19 on Monday, Feb. 13, inside the Multipurpose Building.
Tommy Frezza earned the first points for the Mules (1-6, 1-3 MIAA). Frezza won by pinning Newman's Jevin Foust in the first period (2:22) at 133 pounds.
No. 10-ranked
Darick Lapaglia earned another quick victory for the Mules, pinning Newman's Hunter Dietrich in under a minute (0:51). Lapaglia, competing at 149 pounds, earned his seventh win by pin this season and increased his career record to 76-29.
Nolan Saale was the next Mule to tally a win at 165 pounds. Saale defeated Newman's Chris Mapp by major decision, 9-0. This win tied the match 16-16.Â
Newman had an open weight class at 184 pounds, which gave the Mules a quick six points and
Max Rosario a win.Â
Zachary Hazen bested Newman's Caleb Wunsch at 197 pounds. Hazen earned a 9-3 decision, which gave the Mules a six-point lead going into the final match. This win improved his season record to 10-6.
Trent Strong sealed the Mules' 28-19 victory over the Jets with a 7-1 decision over De'Leon Freeman at 285 pounds.Â
This dual wrapped up the Mules' regular season as they now prepare for the NCAA Division II Super Regional on Sunday, Feb. 26, in Edmond, Okla.
