Athletic Training Services

Athletic-TrainigWelcome to the Athletic Training page at the University of Central Missouri. This page is here to guide incoming student-athletes, current student-athletes, student-athlete parents, and visiting teams. The mission of our program is to provide up to date, comprehensive, and quality health care for our student-athletes.

NCAA Drug Testing Policies:

The NCAA recognizes that some banned substances are used for legitimate medical purposes. Accordingly, the NCAA allows exceptions to be made for those student-athletes with documented medical history demonstrating the need for regular use of such a drug. Exceptions may be granted for substances included in the following classes of banned drugs; anabolic agents, stimulants, beta-blockers, diuretics, anti-estrogens, anabolic steroids, and peptide hormones.

An updated list of the current NCAA banned substances can be found here.

If you are on any of the above-listed medication please contact the athletic training staff. The athletic training staff will assist you in the approval process with the NCAA.

All new student-athletes (this includes freshmen and transfers) must participate in a full physical with UCM. You must complete this physical before you are allowed to participate in any intercollegiate sport; this includes practice or competition. In addition to this physical, the student-athlete is required to provide and carry a current insurance card. Current insurance information and a copy of the card are to be on file in the athletic training office AT ALL TIMES.

All returning UCM student-athletes must participate in a returner physical done by the athletic training staff at UCM. You must complete this physical before you are allowed to participate in any fall, spring, or summer intercollegiate sports; this includes practice or competition. Contacting the athletic training staff is the best way to complete these. In addition to this physical, the student-athlete is required to provide and carry a current insurance card. Current insurance information and a copy of the card are to be on file in the athletic training office AT ALL TIMES.

Once becoming a student-athlete at UCM, the first stop for ANY injury or illness is the athletic training room. Once the athletic training staff is aware of the situation the next steps can begin. Paperwork must be completed in order for the current payment and insurance options to work and begin. If you have questions about this process please contact the athletic training staff.

This process is highlighted in the letter you receive before becoming a student-athlete at UCM.
