Mules Host Weekend Dual Against Newman

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Feb. 5, 2021) - Central Missouri Wrestling is schedule to host its first dual of the season with an MIAA showdown against No. 24 Newman.

Mat Notes: 
• Mules Wrestling hosts Newman in the Multipurpose Building for UCM's first home dual of the season.
• Ranked No. 24 in Division II, Newman is 2-6 on the season with wins over Emmanuel College and Western Colorado. 
• Newman hosts No. 2 Nebraska-Kearney in a MIAA dual on Friday, Feb. 5th, before traveling to Warrensburg to take on the Mules. 
• The Jets will bring a full lineup to take on the Mules with JJ Gilbert at 125, Jake Patch at 133, Tyler Lawley at 141, Brencken Phipps at 149, Kendall Frame at 157, Kameron Frame at 165, JD Johnson or Noah Perkins at 174, Nate Panagakis at 184, Ivan Balavage at 197, and Jake Stoneberger at 285.

Mule Notes: 
• Mules wrestling is 1-7 on the season with six losses to nationally ranked competition. 
• Central Missouri earned it's first win of the season with a 35-17 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan this past Wednesday. The Mules were victorious at 157, 165, 174, 184, 197 and 285 pounds. Trevor Hankins led the Mules with the fastest fall of the dual in 1:28 to claim his first win of the season at 285 pounds. 
• Central Missouri is led by sophomore John Ridle at 157 pounds. Ridle posts a flawless 8-0 record with five decision wins, two technical fall victories, and owns the Mules fastest fall of the season in 1:19. 
• The Mules were selected fifth with four points in the MIAA Coaches Preseason Poll. 
• Ranked third in the Division II, Central Oklahoma is at the top of the coaches poll with 16 points and four first-place votes while the second-ranked Lopers of Nebraska-Kearney came in behind the Bronchos with 13 points and one first-place vote. Fort Hays State was listed third with 10 points and Newman was fourth with seven points,
• Central Missouri returned eight wrestlers from its 2019-20 roster and welcomed five freshman and three transfers to this season's squad.
