WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The Mules kickoff MIAA action with a 22-16 dual victory over Newman.
Both teams had to forfeit a weight class with Newman going open at 285, and Central Missouri going open at 125. The Dual opened at a 6-6 tie.
Daide Agnew recorded a decision victory over Jake Gentzler at 133 pounds. Agnew entered the final period with a 4-3 lead and held on for a 6-5 victory to give UCM a 9-6 lead.
At 141 pounds,
Caleb Crabtree earned a 10-4 decision victory over Garrett Whitson to give the Mules a 12-6 lead.
In the 149 pound class,
Steffon Fassett fell behind 6-0 after the first period, but came back in the second period to cut the lead to 9-8. Fassett took the lead in the final period and held on for a 12-10 decision.
At 157 pounds,
Tyler Horton won a 4-2 decision over Colton Duhr to increase the Mules' lead to 18-6.
Allan Person fell to Noel Torres at 165 pounds in a 5-2 decision, which cut the Central Missouri lead to 18-9.
Archie Williams extended the UCM lead to 22-9 when he scored a 16-5 major decision victory over Heath Gray at 174 pounds.
At 184 pounds, Mike Boyd fell to Kyle Ryan in a 10-3 decision, which cut the Mules' lead to 22-12.
Robert Schneider lost a 19-7 major decision to Dalton Weidl in the final match of the night.
The Mules improve to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the MIAA. Central Missouri will be back in action tomorrow at the Missouri Valley Invitational in Marshall, Missouri.
