KEARNEY, Neb. -- Central Missouri wrestling split their matches at the UNK Midwest Duals on Saturday going 2-2 on the day. The Mules fell to No. 3 Nebraska-Kearney (43-4) and Southwest Minnesota State (31-16), but picked up wins against Mary (32-18) and Minot State (46-0). No. 2 Frank Cagnina (149) won all four of his matches on the day with bonus points.


Cagnina had the only Mule win against the Lopers, beating No. 7 Destin McCauley with a 10-2 major decision. He picked up the first points for Central Missouri against Southwest Minnesota State, pinning Jake Slocum at 2:57. Evan Young (157) followed with a 5-4 decision over Patrick Kelly. Mike Boyd (184) also had a decision over Colton Vekved. Nicholas Lovejoy (197) earned the final points for the Mules, with a 9-0 major decision over Ashton Bartlett.


Central Missouri had their first dual win over Mary. After Mary forfeited the 125-pound bout Zadac Lankford (141) had a 15-0 technical fall over Alec Lindsey. Cagnina followed with his second fall of the day, at 2:33 against Dane Fischer. Josh Thomson (165) also had a fall, at 1:49 over Riley Nagel. Boyd won his second match of the day, beating Kyle Schultz with a 10-6 decision. The Mules picked up another six points when Mary was forced to forfeit the 197-pound weight class.


The Mules finished the day by sweeping their dual against Minot State. Hodges earned six points at 125 pounds with a fall over Anthony Battle in 1:45. Lankford had a decision against Tanner Crissler, followed by Cagnina's second major decision of the day against Cody Haugen. Central Missouri continued their success, when Young pinned Devin Combs in 1:03 and Thomson beat Ricards Avakovs with a decision. Minot State forfeited the 174-pound bout before Levi Turley won his first collegiate start, pinning Kobina Henriques in 4:45 at 184 pounds. Robert Schneider (197) had the fourth win by fall for the Mules in 1:01 against Taylor Barstad.


The Mules are back in action at McKendree on Wednesday night at 7 p.m., followed by a home dual against No. 8 Central Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. Central Missouri will finish the week by hosting the Roger Denker Open on Sunday at 10 a.m.
