WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (16-9, 2-2) dropped both games of their doubleheader against the Augustana Vikings (11-8, 0-0) by a final score of 9-4 and 11-3 (5 inn.), on Monday, March 20, from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.
The Jennies return to the diamond on Friday, March 24, for a conference doubleheader against the Emporia State Hornets with game one's first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m. from Turnbull Field in Emporia, Kan.
Game 1: Augustana (S.D.) 9, Central Missouri 4
Central Missouri got on the board in the bottom of the first thanks to a two-run double from
MaKenzie Cooper that scored
Abby Allnutt and
Makenzie McAtee. After cutting the lead in half in the third and tying the game in the fifth, the Vikings took the lead with a grand slam making it 6-2.
The Jennies cut the deficit with a pinch-hit two-run homer from
Bailee Bryant (first homerun of the year) making it a 6-4 Augustana lead in the fifth, but the Vikings responded with a run in the sixth and a pair in the seventh taking game one by a final score of 9-4.
Game 2: Augustana (S.D.) 11, Center Missouri 3 (5 inn.)
The Vikings got on the board first in the doubleheader finale putting up five runs in the top of the second inning, but the Jens responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning off the bat of
Aubrie McRoberts that scored
Peyton Corrigan.
Augustana proceeded to add three runs in the third, a pair of runs in the fourth and a single run in the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Jens plated a pair of runs thanks to a McAtee single scoring
Abbey Fischer and McRoberts, but the Vikings' Lexi Lander limited UCM's comeback efforts with an 11-3 final score.
