Jennies Softball Sweeps Home Opener Doubleheader Against William Jewell

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (7-3, 0-0) swept their home opener doubleheader over the William Jewell Cardinals (1-6, 0-0) winning game one by a final score of 6-2 while winning game two 8-0 (5 innings) on Tuesday, Feb. 21, from the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.
 
The Jennies return to the diamond on Friday, Feb. 24, for the opening day of the Washburn Invite in Topeka, Kan. 
 
Game 1: Central Missouri 6, William Jewell 2
UCM began the scoring in the second inning plating a pair off the bats of junior Aubrie McRoberts and short stop Abbey Fischer before adding a run in the fifth thanks to aggressive baserunning from senior Peyton Corrigan giving the Jens a 3-0 lead.
 
Central Missouri would add three more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth en route to the 6-2 victory. Sophomore Paige Petefish (3-1) picked up the win allowing just three hits, striking out 10 on 103 pitches.
 
 
Game 2: Central Missouri 8, William Jewell 0 (5 inn.)
The Jens scored early and often in the second game of the doubleheader scoring all eight of their runs in the bottom of the first, capped off by a two-run homer from Fischer down the left field line.
 
Sophomore Kaylee Diggs picks up her second win of the season in the circle pitching four innings, allowing four hits, and striking out two in the five-inning victory.
