ALLENDALE, Mich. – Sixth-ranked Central Missouri Jennies soccer played defending NCAA-II National Champion and No. 1-ranked Grand Valley State to a 2-2 draw Friday evening, Sept. 2, at GVSU Soccer Field.
The Jennies (2-0-1) are scheduled to travel to Caledonia, Mich., for an 11 a.m. CT non-conference match at Davenport Sunday, Sept. 4.
Central Missouri and Grand Valley State (2-0-1) were scoreless for most of the first half until GVSU's Kennedy Bearden found the back of the net in the 42nd minute to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
The Jennies didn't waste anytime out of the half finding an equalizer, as
Caroline Cole scored her team-high fourth goal of the season on an assist from
Ashleigh Martin in the 54th minute.
Sixteen minutes later, in the 70th minute,
Alexis Christopherson put UCM in front, 2-1, with her first collegiate goal – a strike off an
Andree Orcutt assist.
The Lakers responded, however, and leveled the contest, 2-2, after Kennedy Metzger scored in the 76th minute.
For the match, Grand Valley State narrowly outshot the Jennies, 12-11, with each team converting six shots on goal.
Central Missouri goalkeeper
Sydney Beck (2-0-1) earned the tie between the posts after going the full 90 minutes and making four saves.
