TOPEKA, Kan. -- Central Missouri Jennies softball split a pair of games Saturday, Feb. 26, in the Washburn Invitational at Lake Shawnee Softball Park in Topeka, winning against Southwest Minnesota, 9-7, and falling to Sioux Falls, 1-0.
The Jennies (2-8) are slated to wrap up play in Topeka with a pair of games Sunday, Feb. 27, against Missouri-St. Louis at 3:30 p.m. and Wayne State (Neb.) at 5 p.m.
Game 1: Central Missouri 9, Southwest Minnesota State 7
In UCM's 9-7 game one victory over the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State, the Jennies scored a combined seven runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to turn a 5-2 deficit into a 9-5 advantage on the way to the 9-7 win.
Bailey Lovelace went 1-for-4 at the plate and hit her first homer of the season – a two-run shot – to lead Central Missouri while
Peyton Corrigan went 2-for-3 with a double and RBI.
Ashlyn Cook and
Aubrey Brown each added doubles, with Brown also driving in a team-best three runs.
Reliver
Kyleigh Lay (1-2) earned the victory in the circle for UCM after allowing two unearned runs on one hit with a season-high 10 strikeouts and three walks in 4 2/3 innings of work.
J
illian Noel went 1-for-4 with a home run and pair of RBIs, pacing Southwest Minnesota State (3-4).
Shelby Bloemendaal (2-2) suffered the loss for SMSU after allowing six earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts and three walks in three innings.
Game 2: Sioux Falls 1, Central Missouri 0
In the 1-0 setback to Sioux Falls in game two of the day, the Jennies were held to just two hits in the contest, one by
Ashlyn Cook and the other by
Aubrie McRoberts.
An RBI infield single from Sioux Falls (3-3) in the fourth inning turned out to be the winning run in the contest.
Kaylee Diggs (0-2) took the loss in the circle for UCM, allowing one earned run on four hits with five walks and three strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.
Hanna Cress (2-3) earned the win for Sioux Falls, throwing a complete-game with seven strikeouts and one walk while only surrendering two hits.
