PITTSBURG, Kan. – Brooke Littrell scored 31 points and
Olivia Nelson added 25 points to lead No. 17-ranked Central Missouri Jennies basketball past Pittsburg State, 82-75, Saturday evening, Dec. 17, inside John Lance Arena.
The Jennies (8-0, 5-0 MIAA) are scheduled to host William Jewell in a non-conference contest Thursday, Dec. 29, at 6 p.m. inside the Multipurpose Building in Warrensburg.
A redshirt sophomore from Green City, Mo., Littrell went 11-of-18 from the floor, 2-for-4 from three-point range and 7-of-8 at the free-throw line for her season-high 31 points. She added a career-high tying 18 rebounds for her team-best third double-double of the season and dished out a team-high four assists.
Nelson, a redshirt sophomore from Kansas City, Mo., compiled her season-best 25 points on a 10-of-16 performance from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 clip at the foul line.
The Jennies shot 46 percent from the field, converting 31 out of 68 shot attempts, and were 6-of-14 from downtown for 43 percent and 14 out of 17 at the free-throw line for 82 percent.
UCM was outrebounded in the game, 37-26, but scored 26 points off 16 Gorilla turnovers and dominated Pittsburg State in the paint, 48-28.
Pittsburg State led 73-72 with 3:22 to go in the fourth quarter before Central Missouri went on a 10-2 run over the final three minutes of the game for the 82-75 advantage and eventual victory. Nelson got the run started with a layup before Littrell hit back-to-back shots with a layup and jumper for a 78-75 lead with just over two minutes remaining on the clock. She iced the game down the stretch with a perfect 4-of-4 showing at the foul line.
Grace Pyle (19 points) and Tristan Gegg (15 points) paced the Gorillas (8-3, 4-2 MIAA) in the contest.
