Jennies Fell to No. 25 Bronchos in Edmond

EDMOND, Okla. (March 27, 2021) - Central Missouri Softball's six game winning streak came to an end as the Jennies suffered their first league losses to No. 25 Central Oklahoma on the road. 

GAME 1 - Central Missouri 1, Central Oklahoma 2 (8 innings)
How It Happened:
• The Jennies first match up against the No. 25 Bronchos saw five straight scoreless innings with a total of six hits, three belonging to UCM and three to UCO. 
• The first run of the game was scored on a solo home run over left field in the bottom of the sixth by UCO's left fielder Jacee Minter. 
• Rallying in the top of the seventh, a double by third baseman Jessica Sader scored Sydney Wellshear from second to tie the game again at 1-1.  
Paige Petefish recorded three strikeouts in four at-bats in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings. 
• With the Jennies eight, nine, and lead off hitters up, UCO recorded three consecutive outs in what would be UCM's final at-bat.
• With one out and two Bronchos on base, UCO's first baseman Allie Eicher singled to left field, scoring the game-winning run from second for UCO to win it 2-1 in eight innings. 
• The Bronchos out-hit the Jennies 8-5. 
• Both defenses recorded a perfect game with no errors. 

Leading the Jennies:
Jessica Sader led UCM with two hits in three at-bats. She also drove in the Jennies only run with her double in the top of the seventh. 
Sydney Wellshear scored the Jennies lone run.
Paige Petefish threw the entire game for UCM. In 28 at-bats she allowed eight hits, two walks, and two runs scored while striking out seven UCO batters. 

Leading the Bronchos:
• Right fielder Hazel Puempel recorded a game-high three hits in four at-bats. 
• Jace Minter went 2-3 with a walk. 
• Minter and Allie Eicher shared a team-high one RBI. 
• Kylee Lynch also threw the entire seven innings for the Bronchos. In 27 at bats she allowed just five hits, one walk and one run scored. She only struck out one UCM hitter. 

GAME 2 - Central Missouri 0, Central Oklahoma 5 
How It Happened: 
• Central Missouri's offense was shutout for the first time this season in game two against UCO.  
• The No. 25 Bronchos were quicker to score in game two. A single up the middle with a runner on scoring brought UCO's first run to the plate, giving the Bronchos an early 1-0 advantage. 
• Central Oklahoma increased their lead to a 5-0 advantage after the bottom of the second scoring four runs off five hits.  
• Freshman Sadie Parks came in to relieve Kyleigh Lay during the second inning. In the final five innings, Parks and the UCM defense held UCO to just two hits in their final 13 at bats.
• While the Jennies defense held the Bronchos, UCO's defense also held the Jennies scoreless through the entire seven innings.
•  In their 25 at bats the Jennies record a season-low three hits.
• Central Oklahoma finished with eight hits total, five of which occured in the second innings. 
• Central Missouri left a total of five runners on base, two of which were in scoring position. 

Leading the Jennies:
Abbey Fischer, Sydney Wellshear, and Jessica Sadar each accounted for UCM's three hits.
Sadie Parks threw four full innings against the Bronchos. In 13 at bats she allowed just two hits without allowing a single walk or run scored.  

Leading the Bronchos:
• Left fielder Jacee Minter led UCO with two hits in three at-bats. 
• Second baseman Tarin Dubler and third baseman Shayla Harper led UCO with two RBI apiece.   
• Corrina Rivas threw the entire seven innings against the Jennies allowed three hits and one walk while striking out just one UCM hitter. The shutout was Rivas' second of the season.  

News & Notes:
• In the two games, UCM recorded just eight hits, one RBI, and one run scored. 
• The Jennies 5-0 loss to UCO in game two was UCM's first shutout of the season. 
• Their losses to UCO are also UCM's first league losses of the season. The Jennies are now 4-2 in the MIAA.  
• After today's doubleheader only two Jennies post batting averages above .400, led by center fielder Bailey Fowler who posts a .418 batting average through 20 games. 
• With two wins today, Central Oklahoma increases their lead in the all-time series against the Jennies to 21-18. 

Next Up:
Jennies Softball returns to action against another ranked competitor on Monday, March 28th, with a doubleheader against No. 3 Augustana. Game one is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in Council Bluffs, Iowa on the campus of Iowa Western.
