WARRENSBURG, Mo. – For the second straight match, the No. 18-ranked University of Central Missouri Jennies soccer team posted a 4-0 shutout win, this time over Rogers State Sunday, Oct. 3, at the South Recreation Complex.
The Jennies (8-1-1, 2-0-1 MIAA) are scheduled to play a pair of road matches next weekend starting with Newman in Wichita, Kan., on Friday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. before traveling to Edmond, Okla., for a match at Central Oklahoma Sunday, Oct. 10, at 1 p.m.
Central Missouri netted goals in the 14th, 40th, 46th and 57th minutes enroute to the victory over the Hillcats (6-3-1, 1-2-0 MIAA).
Ashleigh Martin and
Katelyn Poertner scored the first half goals for UCM, while
Caroline Cole and
Kassie Newsom tallied the second half goals for the home side.
UCM goalkeepers
Lindsey Johnson and
Sydney Daris, and the Central Missouri backline kept Rogers State off the scoreboard for the full 90 minutes to secure the Jennies' second straight and fifth shutout of 2021.
Martin gave the Jennies a 1-0 lead with her third goal of the season on a shot from the left side into the back of the net just 14 minutes into the match.
Poertner doubled UCM's advantage to 2-0, 25 minutes later after she corralled a feed from
Ellie Rogers and slotted it home. It was Poertner's inaugural goal and Rogers first assist of 2021.
Central Missouri built its lead to 3-0, one minute into the second half when Cole scored her third goal of 2021 on a shot from close range from Newsom on the right side of the box. It was Newsom's team-best sixth assist of the season.
Newsom put an exclamation point on the match for UCM in the 57th-minute, netting her team-high seventh goal of the season on a penalty kick for the 4-0 victory.
For the match, Rogers State outshot the Jennies, 12-11, but UCM had the edge in shots on goal, 5-1.
