TOPEKA, Kan. (Feb. 28, 2020) - Central Missouri Softball picked up their first victory in the three-day Washburn Invitational on Friday afternoon. The Jennies totaled 13 hits in their 9-6 win over Southwest Minnesota State.Â
How It Happened:
• Central Missouri recorded two four-run innings before putting up a final run against the Mustangs in the top of the fifth.
• UCM out hit SMSU 13-9 while totaling nine RBI.
• The Jennies opened the top of the first against the Mustangs with an impressive six hits on seven at-bats to put up four runs.
• SMSU first scored in the bottom of the third with a solo shot over over the left field fence.
• The Jens answered SMSU's first run with another four-run inning in the top of the fourth on three hits and no Mustang errors. One of UCM's three hits was freshman
Sydney Wellshear's career first home run with a two-run shot over the center field.
• The Mustangs scored their second run in the bottom of the inning with two hits and one runner left on base.
• A sacrifice fly to center field from
Ashlyn Cook brought home
Amolee Hawkins from third to give the Jennies a 9-2 lead over SMSU.
• SMSU answered the Jens single-run inning with one of their own in the bottom of five.
• Pagie Petefish and the Jennies defense held the Mustang's seventh inning rally to just three runs. Jennies won 9-6.Â
Leading the Jennies:
• The right fielder Cook hit 3-3 and lead the Jennies with four RBI while scoring two herself.Â
• Wellshear finished 3-2 with two RBI.

Lauryn Deer and
Jessica Sader joined Cook with two runs scored.Â
• Petefished recorded three strikeouts while giving up nine hits and two walks.Â
For the Mustangs:Â
• Kali Tomlinson led the SMSU offense going 3-4 with three runs scored and two RBI.
• Lileya Kebos also drove in two runs.
• In the circle for the Mustangs, Shelby Bloemendaal tossed the full game, giving up 13 hits, nine runs and three walks.Â

• Today's game was SMSU's season opener. Â
• UCM's 13 hits and nine runs scored is the second-most by the Jennies offense this season.
