Jennies Split Home Opener With Miners

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (March 15, 2019) - Central Missouri Jennies Softball began their home slate Friday afternoon at Jennies Field taking on Missouri S&T. The Jennies tossed a shutout for a 5-0 win in game one, but couldn't pull off the sweep, falling 7-4 in game two.

Game 1 - Central Missouri 5, Missouri S&T 0
Play-by-Play

• The game was scoreless going into the fourth inning. Both teams had opportunities in the first stranding two runners on base.
• After the Miners left them loaded in the top of the fourth, the Jennies broke through for three in the bottom half.
• Jessica Sader drove home the game's first run with a sacrifice fly and two batters later, Taylor Dames went deep to center for a two-run home run putting the Jens up 3-0.
• That was all the support Jordan Johnson needed as she allowed just two more base runners the rest of the way.
• The Jens though padded their lead with two more in the fifth on a Hailey Crabtree RBI single and and RBI groundout from Makenzie McAtee.

Jennies Stat Leaders
• Jordan Johnson was the story of game one. She threw a complete game shutout allowing just six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
• Taylor Dames' home run was the biggest hit of the game. She finished 1-3 with a run and two RBI.
• Hailey Crabtree reached base three times with two hits and a hit-by-pitch. She also scored one and drove in a run.
• Lauryn Deer and Ashlyn Cook each had a hit, run and a stolen base.

For the Miners
• Courtney Jackson was 2-4 at the top of the lineup.
• Abby Klein had a double and a stolen base.
• Kate Baxter started and allowed one run on two hits in three innings.
• Olivia Walter tossed the final three innings and suffered the loss giving up four uns on four hits.

Game 2 - Missouri S&T 7, Central Missouri 4
Play-by-Play

• The Jennies picked up where they left off in game one with two runs in the bottom of the first. Lauryn Deer singled, stole second and scored on a fielder's choice. Jessica Sader made it 2-0 with a two-out RBI single to left to score Makenzie McAtee.
• UCM made it 3-0 an inning later on another two-out RBI. This time it was Deer who picked up her second hit in as many innings to score Kaitlyn Markin.
• But the Miners answered with two in the third and three in the fourth. Their two in the fourth came on a bases loaded fielder's choice when the Jens failed to get an out. One batter later a sacrifice fly made it 3-2 UCM.
• A two out error opened the door for a three-run Miner fourth. following the error, a single scored two to put MST out in front 4-3. One batter later, an infield single made it 5-3 Miners.
• The Jennies got to within a run on Ashlyn Cook's infield single in the fourth, but that's as close as they got.
• A two out double in the sixth provided enough insurance for Missouri S&T for a 7-4 game two win.

Jennies Stat Leaders
• Lauryn Deer reached base four times with two singles and two walks. She scored twice, drove in a run and stole a base.
• Ashlyn Cook and Jessica Sader each went 2-4 with an RBI.
• Makenzie McAtee and Katilyn Markin each had a hit and scored.
• Alexa Bradley got the start and threw the first 3.2 innings giving up five runs (two earned) on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
• Sarah Brown tossed the final 3.1 innings allowing two runs on four hits with two strikeouts.

For the Miners
• Avery English got the win out of the bullpen throwing 5.1 innings and giving up a run on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts. 
• Courtney Jackson scored three times and was 2-4.
• Olivia Young and Gretchen Egly collected two hits each. Egly drove in three runs.

News and Notes
• Sarah Brown reached 100 career innings pitched at UCM.
• Jessica Sader extended her hitting streak to 12 straight games.
• The Jennies were 8-28 with runners on base in the two games while the Miners were 7-31.
• Lauryn Deer reached base five times and scored three runs in the doubleheader.
• Jordan Johnson has a 2.66 ERA in her last 26.1 innings. This is her third career shutout.

Up Next
• The Jennies will look to open up MIAA play sometime this weekend against Missouri Western. Based on field conditions, the Griffons will decide if the doubleheader will take place Sunday, March 17 or Monday, March 18.
