No Hitter Advances Mules Into MIAA Championship

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (May 12, 2018) - Saturday night's Central Missouri Baseball MIAA Tournament game had something for everybody. Like lots of offense? Check. Fan of great pitching check? Defense? Check. The Mules had it all working as they cruised past top-seeded Central Oklahoma 15-0 and into the MIAA Championship game.

The star of the night was senior starter Brandon Reid. Reid carried the Mules through 6.2 no-hit innings before giving way to a bullpen that threw 1.1 to finish the job of a combined no hitter.

Play-by-Play
• Central Missouri got on the board first in the opening frame. With two on and two out, Erik Webb scored on John Fairchild's ground ball up the middle when the shortstops throw pulled the first baseman's foot off the bag.
• The Mules got two more in the fourth inning all with two outs. They loaded the bases and Travis Able ripped a 1-2 pitch to center to score Zak Whalin and Mason Janvrin and make it a 3-0 game.
• It was the Brandon Reid show after that. He got out of trouble in the bottom of the fourth and issuing back-to-back one out walks. One pitch later though he induced an inning-ending 5-4-3 double play to keep the Mules on top 3-0.
• Reid left runners stranded in the fifth and seventh innings. He was lifted with two on and two out in the seventh after throwing 104 pitches. Jonathan Sprinkle came in and got a foul pop up to Collin Nevil to squash the threat.
• That was when the floodgates opened. The Mules exploded for 12 runs on 7 hits, sending 15 batters to the plate. Able and Nevil got things going with a pair of opposite field singles to make it 5-0.
• UCM got another run when Harrison Schnurbusch was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. One batter later, Donovan Ditto knocked in two on a hard-hit single up the middle. • After a groundball off of the bat of Whalin couldn't be handled, the inning continue. Mason Janvrin found some space in shallow right field for an RBI hit and Able scored two more with another two-RBI hit.
• The biggest hit of the inning was Nevil's long three-run home run to deep right field, putting UCM up 15-0.

Mules Stat Leaders
• Brandon Reid earned the win after tossing 6.2 no hit innings. He walked four and struck out five.
• Stanton Lohrengel entered and got the final three outs, including a strikeout to end the game.

• Collin Nevil drove in four with three hits including a home run.
