Jennies Walk-Off Winner in Florida Finale

CLEARWATER, Fla. (Feb. 12, 2017) - Central Missouri Softball can head back to Warrensburg with a good feeling after their 7-6, walk-off win against Georgia College. The Jens needed to comeback trailing by as many as three to pull out the win in their final at bat. The win moves them to 5-6 on the season after going 2-3 in Florida.

Jordan Johnson played the hero in this one, getting not only the game winning hit, but the win in the circle. With the score tied at six in the seventh, UCM loaded the bases with two outs, and Johnson delivered an opposite field game winning single to score Lauren Mabe. The hit was Johnson's second of the day. She also came on in relief to limit the damage of the Bobcats at the plate. Johnson threw the final three innings, allowing two unearned runs while giving up just one hit and striking out two. She improves to 2-2 on the season.

The game didn't start out well for UCM, quickly falling behind 3-0 after two innings. The Bobcats got three unearned runs in the second without the benefit of a hit off of Jennies starter Alexa Bradley. Bradley lasted 2.2 innings allowing three runs on two hits and a walk.

Central Missouri got right back in it with a three-run inning of their own. Mabe drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Alex Leonhart tied the game at three with a two-RBI double.

For a second time though, the Bobcats took a three-run lead, plating a run in the fourth and two in the sixth. Against Jennies reliever Katie Giacone, Georgia College broke the tie with a two-out single in the fourth, and padded their lead with a two-out, two-RBI double in the sixth.

It didn't take long for the Jens to respond. Just a half inning later, Giacone drove home a pair with a double. She then scored the game-tying run on Lauryn Deer's RBI single.

After Johnson retired the side in order in the top of the seventh, she won it in the bottom half with her RBI single.

The Jennies totaled seven hits with two apiece from Johnson and Giacone. Leonhart finished 1-for-4 with a double, two RBI, run scored and a stolen base. The top six batters in the Jennies order all scored a run.

The top of the Bobcat order did most of the damage. They collected only four hits off of Jennies pitching, with all three coming from the top-three spots. Baylee Hall finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Faith Flanders went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI. She was also the Bobcat starter and lasted five innings, giving up six runs (two earned) on four hits with two walks.

Defense no doubt played a role in the course of the game. The two teams combined for 11 errors and only three of the 13 runs were earned.

Central Missouri is at another tournament next week. They'll take part in the Eight-State Arkansas-Monticello Classic in Bentonville Ark., Feb. 17-19.
