WEATHERFORD, Okla. (Sept. 1, 2016) – No. 5 Central Missouri Jennies Soccer kicked off their 2016 season in style with a 3-0 shutout victory at Southwestern Oklahoma State.
Seniors Baylie Edwards and Abby Rhodes got the Jennies on the board early, and freshman Alex Harms came away with three points with a goal and an assist.
In net, junior keeper Ana Dilkes stopped all seven shots on net and recorded her 27th career shutout win.
Things were moving along slowly at the outset, with neither team scoring in the first 30 minutes. That changed when Edwards popped one over the keepers head and into net in the 34th minute, getting an assist from Harms.
Less than one minute later, Rhodes put the Jennies up two, taking the ball herself down the left side and found the back of the net.
The score remained at 2-0 well into the second half when Harms scored her first career goal, getting an assist from Jada Scott in the 64th minute.
The Bulldogs fought hard till the end, getting off 20 shots including seven on net. The Jens finished the game with 15 shot attempts and seven on net as well. The Bulldogs' Alimata Rabo led all players, firing eight total shots.
Central Missouri returns to Warrensburg for their home opener Saturday, Sept. 3. Game time is set for 1 p.m. against Northern Sun foe, Augustana. This will be the third straight year the two teams have met, with the Jennies coming away victorious in 2014 and 2015.
