Jennies Rout Bearcats, Pick up Ninth Straight Win

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Dec. 17, 2016) - Jennies Basketball continued their winning ways Saturday afternoon, defeating Southwest Baptist 80-59. Playing at the Multi for the first time in more than a month, the Jens picked up their ninth straight win, and move to 9-1 on the season and 3-0 in the MIAA.

The nine game winning streak ties their longest since the 2014-15 season, when they also won nine straight. It is also just the third time that UCM has started 3-0 in MIAA play under Coach Dave Slifer.

Central Missouri scored 80 points for the fourth time this season. They also held their opponent to under 60 points for the sixth straight game.

Five Jennies scored in double-figures led by Paige Redmond's 18. Sydney Crockett added 14, going 4-for-6 from three. The Jens made 10 of their 25 three-point shots, and shot 47% (31-for-66) from the field. Kelsey Williams went a perfect 3-for-3 from three and scored a career-high 13 points.

Kayonna Lee was aggressive on the boards, collecting a game-high nine rebounds. The Jennies defense forced 20 Bearcat turnovers and came away with 11 steals, four from Ashley Duffy.

The Jennies found themselves in unfamiliar territory early, leading by nine midway through the opening period. The Bearcats used a 10-0 lead to take their first lead of the game, 17-16, with 90 seconds left. A three from Crockett gave the Jennies the lead back, 23-21, after the first 10 minutes.

The teams went back-and-forth starting the second. The score was tied on four separate occasions in the frame, and with under three minutes to play in the half, Crockett gave the Jennies the lead for good, burying her third triple of the half. Layups from Redmond and Sydney Skaggs in the final minute gave UCM a six-point edge, 43-37, going into halftime.

Central Missouri held the Bearcats scoreless for the first six minutes of the second half, building their lead to 17, 54-37. The Jens outscored SBU 21-9 in the third period.

Crockett's fourth three started the scoring in the fourth, and gave UCM a 21-point lead, 67-46. The Jens were in control for the rest of the contest, cruising to an 80-59 win.

Southwest Baptist was led by Caylee Richardson who scored 14 points. Mackenzie Skupa scored 12 points, six coming at the free throw line.

Central Missouri has one final game left in the 2016 calendar year. They play William Jewell at home Monday, December 19. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m.
