FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Oct. 28, 2016) – The Central Missouri Mules hung with Arkansas and their "Fastest 40" brand of basketball for a half, but the Razorbacks used a big second half to pull away for an 87-60 exhibition win on Friday night at Bud Walton Arena.
The Razorbacks outscored UCM 46-29 in the second half to pull away for the 27-point win.
Arkansas jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game only to see the Mules respond with a 10-2 run to grab the lead on
Clarence Smith's three-pointer at the 15:11 mark of the first half.
Arkansas responded with an 11-0 run and the Razorbacks led 18-10 with 12:26 to play in the opening stanza, but the Mules scored12 of the next 15 to regain the lead 22-21 with 6:52 to play in the half.
The game was tied at 26 with just over five minutes to play in the half, but Arkansas scored 15 of the final 20 points in the frame and led 41-31 at the intermission.
Spencer Reaves hit a three-pointer out of the break to pull the Mules within 41-34, but the Razorbacks went on an 11-0 and led 52-34 with 16:16 to play in the game.
The closest the Mules would get the rest of the way was 14 at 57-43 on a Reaves three with 14:00 to play.
A 16-1 run for the Hogs made it a 29-point lead with eight and a half to play. Arkansas would lead by as many as 31 before the final buzzer.
Three Mules finished in double figures, with
Kyle Wolf,
Marquiez Lawrence and Reaves all had 10 points. Lawrence added a team-high eight rebounds.
UCM was 19-of-50 shooting at a 38 percent clip. The Mules made 9-of-25 from behind the arc and 13-of-23 at the foul line.
Dusty Hannahs led Arkansas with 17 points, while Jaylen Barford and Manuale Watkins finished with 10 apiece as the Hogs shot 49 percent (30-61) from the field. They were just 1-of-18 from behind the arc and were 26-of-36 at the charity stripe.
The Mules wrap up the exhibition portion of their schedule next Friday night, Nov. 4 against the Missouri Tigers. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Mizzou Arena.
