WARRENSBURG, Mo. - Central Missouri Jennies Basketball outscored Lindenwood 47-35 in the second half, en route to an 82-64 win Wednesday evening.
Ashley Jones scored a career-high 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for her third double-double in as many games and UCM moved to 6-8 on the year and 5-4 in the MIAA. Jones finished 12-of-18 from the floor.
In addition to Jones,
Shelby Winkelmann scored 21 points, her fifth straight game with at least 20 points. She also dished out a game-high seven assists.
Tayler Weiks chipped in with 17 points.
With Jones doing most of the damage, the Jennies were dominant in the paint. UCM scored 46 points from under the basket and held a 38-31 rebounding advantage. They also scored 10 second-chance points.
The opening half went back-and-forth with neither team gaining more than a four point edge. Trailing by one with 1:50 to go, Winkelmann hit a three to give UCM a two-point lead and
Ashley Jones closed the half with a pair of free throws and a layup in the final minute, putting the Jens on top 35-29 heading into intermission.
Once again, the Jennies stormed out of the gates in the second half. After Kassidy Gengenbacher brought the lead to two, 35-31, Weiks scored the next six points getting a three, a layup and a free throw, giving UCM a 10-point lead.
Central Missouri pushed the envelope in the third period, going up as many as 21 after a pair of Winkelmann free throws.
The Lady Lions tried making a comeback, scoring the final five points of the third period and the first four of the fourth period, bringing the Jennies lead down to 12, 62-50. A layup from CeCe Rapp brought the game back to single digits at 66-58, but
Ashley Jones knocked in layups on back-to-back possessions with assists from Winkelmann and
Paige Redmond, and UCM was on their way to an 82-64 win.
Central Missouri did a great job of passing the ball, led by Winkelmann's seven assists. The Jens racked up 18 total assists. In addition to Winkelmann, Redmond handed out four and three Jennies had two assists each.
For the third time in four games the Jennies shot better than 50% from the floor. UCM went 32-of-62 from the field for 51.6% and held the Lady Lions under 40% shooting at 38.9% (21-of-54).
For the Lindenwood, Gengenbacher was their leading scorer with 24 points. Beth Maenpaa finished in double-figures with 11 points and both Gengenbacher and Maenpaa collected seven rebounds.
UCM concludes this week with another home game, Saturday, Jan. 16 as the Lincoln Blue Tigers come to Warrensburg. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m.
