Jennies Pick Up Win Over Wayne St. On Day One of Regional Crossover

Season Stats

WARRENSBURG, Mo
. – Central Missouri began its stretch of five Northern Sun opponents in three days with a split, winning against Wayne St. (Neb.) 5-1, before narrowly falling to No. 24 Augustana 9-8 in a shootout. The Jennies remain nine games over .500 after the split, moving their record to 16-7 on the season.

Game One: UCM 5, Wayne State 1

In the opening game, Central Missouri got their revenge on Wayne State, who defeated them earlier in the season at the Kelly Laas Memorial Dome Tournament in St. Cloud, Minn.

The Jennies put across four runs in the first two innings and Jakki Prater did the rest. Prater threw her eighth complete game of the season allowing just one run on seven hits while striking out four and issuing just one walk. Prater improves to 8-2 on the year and is 5-0 with a 1.74 ERA in her last six starts.

The scoring started early as Prater helped her own cause in the first driving in Ali Jo Rogers to take a 1-0 lead. Prater allowed a lead-off double in the top half of the second but nothing else to escape trouble.

In the bottom of the frame, the Jennies collected three runs on three hits and took advantage of some Wildcat miscues. Amanda Nally, Makayla Schoonover and Rogers all came around to score to put the Jens up 4-0.

Wayne State could only muster a run in the top of the fourth inning, but by then it was too little too late. The Jens tacked on another run in the fifth on an RBI single from Allie Dishinger.

UCM scattered eight hits in the game, getting two apiece from Nally and Schoonover.

Game Two: Augustana 9, UCM 8

Game two was a wild affair. Like Wayne State, the Jennies were looking to avenge an early season loss at the hands of No. 24 Augustana.

The Jennies grabbed themselves a 3-0 lead before Augustana even came to bat. The first four batters all reached base against the Vikings. Lindsey Dawson singled home Rogers for the game's first run, and Alex Leonhart drove in a pair with a double to center.

Augustana was able to get one of the runs back in the bottom half of the frame on a Jenelle Trautmann RBI single, cutting the lead to 3-1.

The score remained that way through three and a half innings as Jessica Wilkes and Carley Pickett exchanged zeros. That's when the bats woke up.

The Vikings grabbed their first lead in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three runs on a solo home run from Carly Peterson and a two-RBI double from Caitlin Nichol. They added an unearned run in the fifth, taking a two-run advantage, 5-3.

The Jennies answered, putting up a four-spot in the top of the sixth. After Carlie Rose scored on a fielder's choice, Madison Hood put the Jennies back in front, 6-5, with a two-run double. The inning continued and Prater added a two-out RBI single as the Jens took a 7-5 lead.

With two on and two out in the bottom half of the sixth, the Vikings struck again as Trautmann's three-run home run put Augustana back in front 8-7.

Down to their final at bat, the Jennies started a rally in the seventh getting the first two runners in scoring positon with nobody out. After a strikeout, Rose evened things up with a single to right to score Keelia Martin tying the game. The Jennies had the go-ahead run on third base with one out, but couldn't bring her in, leaving two runners on base heading to the bottom of the seventh.

UCM got a pair of flyouts to start the inning, but the Vikings collected three straight singles, scoring the winning run on Nichols' RBI base hit to right to earn the 9-8 win.

Wilkes started for the Jennies and went 4.1 innings giving up five runs (three earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts before departing for Katie Shockley. Shockley was on the short side, picking up the loss tossing 2.1 innings allowing four runs on five hits with two punchouts.

Leonhart had a big day at the plate going 2-for-3 with two RBI, a run scored and a walk. Hood and Rose also had a pair of RBIs each. Rogers was 2-for-5 with a run scored and two stolen bases.

The Jennies weekend continues tomorrow with games against Upper Iowa at 12 p.m. and Northern State at 4 p.m.
