MARYVILLE, Mo. - No. 11 UCM Volleyball got back into the win column with a sweep of Northwest Missouri State (25-16, 25-19, 25-19). The win moves the Jennies to 17-3 this season and 5-2 in the MIAA.Carly Sojka (12) and
Kylie Hohlen (11) led the Jennies in kills while
Maddie Jones chipped in eight with a .438 attack percentage.
Haley Thompson landed five kills and put back five block assists.
Kourtney Thompson was in the middle of the offense handing out 26 assists and also led the defense with nine digs.
The Jennies hit .324 for the match compared to just .162 for the Bearcats. UCM also landed six service aces, two each from Sojka and Hohlen.
UCM got out of the gates strong in the first set, taking a 7-3 lead. NWMSU came back to within one, 10-9. The Jens then used a 9-2 run to distance themselves and eventually take the opening frame, 25-16.
The Jens again got on the board early in the second set, going up 4-1, but Northwest Missouri quickly tied the set at five. Up by two, 11-9, the Jennies pushed their lead to seven, 17-10, getting four kills during the spurt. The Bearcats got to within four late, but it wasn't enough as the Jennies took the second set, 25-19.
The third set went back and forth from the get-go. UCM was finally able to pull ahead for a four-point lead at 16-12. The Jens pushed it to a set-high six and put the Bearcats away with a kill from Hohlen.
UCM is back in Warrensburg next weekend for a pair of matches against Missouri Southern and Southwest Baptist, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 16-17.
