JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The Central Missouri Mules rallied from a two-run deficit and beat Lincoln 7-5 in the series opener on Friday afternoon at the LU Baseball Field. The Mules trailed 2-0 and 4-2 before rallying for the win.
The Blue Tigers (1-19, 0-16 MIAA) scored an unearned run in the first and another single run in the second to take a 2-0 lead. The Mules (19-9, 16-5 MIAA) tied the game with a pair of runs in the top of the third.
Tony Sandifer had a sacrifice fly and
Dylan Hanson also knocked in a run.
Lincoln regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third to lead 4-2. UCM took the lead for good, however, with three runs in the top of the fourth.
Brad Jelinek scored on a wild pitch and
Jake Alexander had a sacrifice fly to tie the game. The Mules went in front on
Brad Wilson's RBI double.
Central Missouri added two runs in the seventh on a
Miles Orscheln sacrifice fly and Jelinek RBI bunt single to lead 7-4. The Blue Tigers scored one run in the ninth to pull within 7-5, but
Zach Davis came on to record the final out and secure his sixth save of the season.
AJ Walkenhorst (1-1) picked up the win tossing four innings of one-hit relief. He also struck out seven. Starter
Ricky Rivera tossed 4.2 innings allowing four runs, two earned, on eight hits.
Ryan Simpson (0-4) took the loss for Lincoln after giving up five runs on four hits in 3.2 innings. He walked five and struck out one.
The series continues with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch at the LU Baseball Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
