(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – Jennies softball (9-11, 0-4 MIAA) dropped two games to the 13
th ranked Griffons (19-4, 4-0 MIAA) of Missouri Western Saturday afternoon at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg. The Jens fell 5-1 in the first game then dropped game two 8-2.
Game 1: Missouri Western 5, Central Missouri 1
Missouri Western used an 11-8 hitting advantage and a three-run third inning to defeat the Jennies, 5-1, in the first game of the day at Jennies Field.
The Griffons scored runs in the second (1), third (3) and fifth (1) innings to secure the victory while the Jennies could only muster a single run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Jennies lone run came when
Braylyn Bivens (Kansas City, Mo.) singled to left field, allowing
Medora West (St. Louis, Mo.) to score.
Game 2: Missouri Western 8, Central Missouri 2
The Griffons took the second game of the day, 8-2, on the power of 12 hits and a four-run fifth inning.
Missouri Western scored in the first (2), fifth (4), sixth (1) and seventh (1) innings, securing the doubleheader sweep against Central Missouri.
The Jennies were only able to score runs in the bottom of the seventh on the strength of back-to-back homeruns to left field by
Nicole Norberg (St. Louis, Mo.) and
Brittany Martin (Warrensburg, Mo.) to lead off the inning. The round-tripper by Norberg is her first this season while Martin's homerun is her third.
Central Missouri will look to snap its four-game slide Wednesday when the Rockhurst University Hawks visit the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg for a 3 p.m. non-conference doubleheader.
