(WICHITA, Kan.) – The University of Central Missouri Mules' Wrestling squad got victories from six grapplers enroot to a 25-20 victory over Newman University Wednesday night in Wichita, Kansas.
Eric Mateo (St. Robert, Mo.) got the first win of the evening for the Mules, defeating the Jets Kris Workman at 133 pounds on a 12-3 major decision before the Mules'
Nick Viterisi (Bloomington, Ind.) took a 6-1 decision in overtime at 141 pounds over Newman's Mitch Arnold to give the Cardinal and Black grapplers a 7-5 advantage.
Zeb Spicer (Ozark, Mo.) increased the Mule lead when he pinned (4:10) the Jets' JP Carter in the 157 pound match to put Central Missouri on-top 13-11. The Mules'
Todd Brier (Nevada, Mo.) added to the Mules lead, taking an 11-4 decision over Newman's Alex Prine at 165 pounds, putting the Mules up 16-11.
Marcus Sundee (Harrisonville, Mo.) won by forfeit at 174 pounds, increasing the Central Missouri lead to 22-11 heading into the 184 pound match featuring Central Missouri's
Willie Ressel (Springfield, Mo.) and the Jets' Tyler Hasenbank. Ressel battled hard and was rewarded with a 7-5 decision over Hasenbank to give the Mules and insurmountable 25-14 edge over Newman. The Jets' Jacob Cole won the heavyweight match by forfeit, making the final score 25-20 in favor of Central Missouri.
With the win, the Mules improve their dual record to 3-10 overall going into a dual match at sixth-ranked Central Oklahoma Thursday night in Edmond, Oklahoma. Wrestling is set to begin at 7 p.m.
