Box Score (WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – Senior
Nicole Caddell came one point shy of her career high, scoring 26 in an 86-51 win over the Southwest Baptist Bearcats, in the MIAA season-opener. The Jennies have now started the season with six straight wins, their longest win streak to open a season since 1994-95.
The Jennies never trailed, as
Renae Shippy, Alyssa Rhodes, and Caddell opened the game with back-to-back-to-back three-pointers. The Jens went on to score the first 13 points of the game, leading comfortably throughout the first half. Another Caddell trey gave the Jennies a 20-point advantage less than seven minutes into the game, at 24-4.
The Bearcats came out for the second half on an 8-4 run, but the Jennies were able to hold off any comeback attempts from Southwest Baptist. UCM put the game away on an 11-0 run midway through the second half to lead by 33 with eight minutes to play.
Shippy finished with 18 points, tying her career high, and 11 rebounds, recording her first double-double of the season.
Taylor Hanson, coming off her record-setting performance against Benedictine, scored 15 points off 5-of-8 shooting from the three-point line.
With the win, the Jennies kick off the MIAA season at 1-0 and are 6-0 overall. UCM will host Missouri Southern to continue conference play on Saturday, December 3, at 1:30 p.m.
